Book Review :: Fearless Daughters of the Bible By J. Lee Grady

   Fearless Daughters of the Bible               By J. Lee Grady
  Publisher :: Chosen Publishing
Year of Publication :: 2012
ISBN :: 0800795318
Number of Pages :: 224
My Rating :: 2 out of 5 stars

Book Description ::
Bestselling Author Reveals How God Empowers Women for Leadership and Purpose Christian women are often led to believe they are God's afterthoughts--as if they were created inferior to men or destined by God to play a secondary role in life. Not so, says bestselling author J. Lee Grady, father of four daughters and a leading international voice confronting the abuse of women. He counters that the Bible's message is neither sexist nor patronizing. Through sharing the lives of 23 mold-breaking biblical women, Grady shows how God enables his daughters to do amazing, even impossible things. He also reveals the empowering, yet often-overlooked, gifts God longs to give each of his daughters--gifts like wisdom, fruitfulness, leadership, family, and boldness. When women learn to receive each of these, and more, as a divine inheritance, they will live the fearless and beautiful lives of purpose God desires for them.

My Review ::
Fearless Daughters of the Bible is a book that goes into detail with studying certain important women figures in the Bible, and shares what we can learn from those women.

Book Review :: Winning Balance By Shawn Johnson

Winning Balance: What I've Learned So Far About Love, Faith, and Living Your DreamsWinning Balance
By Shawn Johnson
With Nancy French

Publisher :: Tyndale House
Year of Publication :: 2012
ISBN :: 1414372108
Number of Pages :: 224
My Rating :: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Book Description :: You’ve seen her perform gravity-defying gymnastics moves. You’ve seen her win Olympic medals in Beijing and the coveted mirror ball trophy on Dancing with the Stars. You’ve also seen her land on her feet—with her trademark smile—even when things haven’t gone her way.
Despite achieving more success and celebrity in her first two decades than most people experience in a lifetime, things haven’t been easy for Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson. Her first gymnastics coach told her family she lacked talent. Her modest upbringing in Iowa made elite competition unlikely. Although she won four medals at the Beijing Olympics, she was denied the big prize she’d dreamed of—the all-around gold medal. She had a terrifying experience with a stalker and would-be kidnapper. And after suffering a potentially career-ending injury, Shawn ultimately had to rethink what was truly important. What did she want most in life? What kind of success was worth pursuing? Would she ever find true faith, lasting hope, and real love?

In Winning Balance, for the first time Shawn reveals her journey so far: her against-the-odds quest to become a gymnastics world champion, her flirtation with Hollywood glamour, her growing faith, and her struggle to find herself. It’s the full, behind-the-scenes story of how a young woman who won Olympic gold on the balance beam learned new lessons about balance— as well as love, faith, and what winning really means.

My Review ::
Ever since I had heard about Olympic gymnastic, Shawn Johnson's new book, I looked forward to reading it. I love watching gymnastics, and Shawn's no exception as she is clearly gifted in the sport. Since I love reading memoirs, I was very eager to read this one. While their were a few things I didn't really relate to, or would have done myself, (such as her Dancing With The Stars experience, I personally would want more modest dances and attire, but that's just me) I enjoyed reading her story. Even though I'd never want such a lifestyle, as it is clearly stress-filled, I enjoyed reading about what it's like and enjoyed all the little snippets about her life that you wouldn't know otherwise.

Review & Giveaway :: One Thing I Desire : To Know Christ More By Sarah Bryant

Good afternoon, ladies! Sorry about this week's giveaway post being up a bit late...I've had a busy past coulde of days! This past weekend I was busy helping clean some friends houses and babysitting to earn the last bit I needed to buy a Kindle! I'm super excited about that and ordered it last night, so I'm hoping it will arrive soon. :) {If anyone is curious as to which one I got then just click HERE to see which one}

But back to the post-today I have the pleasure of sharing about one of my dear friends, Sarah's new book that just came out! I first "met" Sarah four years ago when I subscribed to her wonderful magazine The King's Blooming Rose, and ever since have been deeply encouraged and inspired by her friendship! I have always enjoyed receiving her quarterly magazine, The Kings Blooming Rose, and to this day have ever single issue going as far back as 2008! She has written two books: The Family Daughter and she just recently released her newest book called One Thing I Desire: To Know Christ More!

About The Kings Blooming Rose ::

Here is a bit of information on  The Kings Blooming Rose Ministry which was taken off their website:

"Would you like to receive encouragement in your walk with Christ? Would you like to meet other Christian young ladies and families serving our King? We invite you to join us on our journey to Biblical womanhood!

The purpose of our ministry is to encourage young ladies to grow closer to Christ in their daily walk, and to become delightful cornerstones at home under the guidance of their parents according to Titus two and Proverbs 31.

KBR Ministries has several branches: a quarterly
magazine The King's Blooming Rose, encouraging books, stationery and cards, and a monthly forum for daughters. This is a ministry of homeschool graduate Sarah Bryant, under the wisdom and guidance of her parents; read about the story and family behind KBR Ministries here."

Today, I would like to share you you mainly about her new book, so here is the back cover description of this encouraging new read:

"What is your deepest desire?

Has your life been engulfed by one consuming passion — that you would more deeply know your Savior Jesus Christ and the fullness of the Gospel?

We are given only one life — one blink of an eye in light of a shoreless eternity. What is our purpose in this earthly life? The greatest command is to love the Lord our God with all of our heart, yet how do we love a God we do not know? We know how to fit into the "right Christian circles" and say all the "right things" — but do we personally know the Author of our salvation?

Book Review :: My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century

My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century
 My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century
By Rachel Harris

Publisher :: Entangled Publishing
Publication Date :: 2012
ISBN-13 :: 9781620611357
Number of Pages :: 304
Book Description ::

On the precipice of her sixteenth birthday, the last thing lone wolf Cat Crawford wants is an extravagant gala thrown by her bubbly stepmother and well-meaning father. So even though Cat knows the family’s trip to Florence, Italy, is a peace offering, she embraces the magical city and all it offers. But when her curiosity leads her to an unusual gypsy tent, she exits . . . right into Renaissance Firenze.

Thrust into the sixteenth century armed with only a backpack full of contraband future items, Cat joins up with her ancestors, the sweet Alessandra and protective Cipriano, and soon falls for the gorgeous aspiring artist Lorenzo. But when the much-older Niccolo starts sniffing around, Cat realizes that an unwanted birthday party is nothing compared to an unwanted suitor full of creeptastic amore. Can she find her way back to modern times before her Italian adventure turns into an Italian forever?

My Review ::
I was very surprised with this book, since it wasn't at all what I was expecting. I have read The River of Time Series and it has a very similar plot to My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century. They both are about a teen girl who travels back in time to ancient Italy and finds romance there. So I kind of has this idea of what this book would be like, based off the previous related books I had read by another author.

But unfortunately, I found several things that I didn't really care for, agree with, or support in this book. I'm assuming the author isn't a christian by the way this book was written with the worldy viewpoint. Personally, I try to stay away from books with bad language, and I was extremely dissapointed to find that this book had quite an abundance of words I'd rather not have stuck in my head. There was quite a few of them, and I think that really lessened my value and respect for the book. Another thing I noticed was there were several scenes I felt uncomfortable with and wouldn't have wanted to read aloud.

This book has a nice plot, but it just wasn't for me being the way it was written and the frequent language. If anyoone out there is interested in this book I suggest you look into it seriously before reading it, to know what you are reading. Just know that it was not written with a christian mindset, and that there is quite a bit if language.

I would like to thank the publisher and Rachel Harris for my free e-copy of My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century which was sent to me for review purposes. I was not paid for this review. All thoughts are my own, 100% honest, and were not based off the book being free.

After the war, nearly dead from his injuries, it appears Seth got married. Oh, he's got a lot of excuses, but his wife isn't happy to find out Seth doesn't remember her. Callie has searched, prayed, and worried. Now she's come to the Kincaid family's ranch in Colorado to find her lost husband.
Callie isn't a long-suffering woman. Once she knows her husband is alive, she wants to kill him. She's not even close to forgiving him for abandoning her.
Then more trouble shows up in the form of a secret Seth's pa kept for years. The Kincaid brothers might lose their ranch if they can't sort things out. It's enough to drive a man insane--but somehow it's all making Seth see things more clearly. And now that he knows what he wants, no one better stand in his way."

About The Author ::
Wanda Brunstetter is a Christian Amish fiction writer and in the past, I've had the pleasure of reading her series The Sisters of Holmes County, and White Christmas Pie which I really enjoyed! I love how clean Wanda books are, yet they are exciting and interesting! Here is a bit about Mrs. Brunstetter that I found on her "About" page on her website:
professionalbiophoto About

A chasm lies between Rahab and her beloved Sala that can never be crossed.
Though Sala rescues young Rahab from slave bandits, he knows he can never fall in love with a
Canaanite. His belief in the One True God prevents them from a future together. Rahab's beauty
gains royal notice, and she is selected to entice the King during the annual sacred marriage
reenactment praising their pagan god, Baal.
But when the King suffers a heart attack and dies, Rahab is saved from the humiliating act. Her
despair drives her curiosity about Sala's One True God. Could He accept her . . . even love her?
Deceit and pride stand in the way of Rahab's happy ending. Only God can use these events to tell
the larger story of forgiveness and redemption. {Description from GoodReads.com}

Book Review :: Almost Amish By Kathryn Cushman

I love both contemporary and Amish fiction, so when I saw the opportunity to review a book that had the best of both worlds-both a bit of contemporary and a bit of Amish fiction all in one novel-I was super excited. I'd heard about this book, and seen the cover right as it was released, and had wanted to read it so I was very pleased at the chance to review it.

Almost Amish
About The Book ::

My Rating :: 5 out of 5 stars

Description :: {Taken from ChristanBook.com}

Julie Charlton is at the breaking point. She's overwhelmed and burned out, and in today's unrelenting society, her kids are, too. When her sister-in-law Susan, a Martha Stewart-in-training, lands the chance to participate in a reality TV series promoting simple living, and needs another family to join her, it seems like the perfect opportunity.

The location is an idyllic farm outside an Amish community in Tennessee. Julie, with her two children, joins Susan and her teenage daughter for a summer adventure. Susan needs to succeed in order to become self-sufficient after an ugly divorce, Julie needs to slow down long enough to remember what her priorities are and regain a sense of purpose and meaning. It becomes clear from the start that "living simple" is no simple matter. With the camera watching every move, Susan's drive for perfection feels a lot like what they left behind, while Julie suddenly finds herself needing to stand up for slowing down. With each new challenge, their season of "going Amish" gets more and more complicated, as each woman learns unexpected lessons about herself and her family.

The Review ::
I was very excited to be able to read this book as I'd been wanting to for a while. Although it's the first book I've read by Kathryn Cushman, it probably won't be the last! When I got this book in the mail from Bethany House to review, I could tell by the first chapter that I'd love it...and I did! I loved how inspirational it was and how it makes you think, while at the same time providing an entertaining read with a mix of both contemporary and Amish fiction.

Giveaway :: Lindsay Sews

Today I'm back with another great giveaway/shop feature for you ladies! Are y'all excited? I sure am because today, I'll be giving away not one, but two pairs of lovely earrings! So let's take a look at our sponsor!

About The Shop ::

Today for our Monday feature, I'd like to introduce you to a lovely little shop called Lindsay Sews! This is a organization started by Mrs. Lindsay who makes and sells adorable button covered earrings! Lindsay started making and selling button earrings a while back with the purpose of raising money to go towards adoption fees. Here is a bit about Lindsay and Lindsay Sews that I borrowed from her Adoption Fundraiser Earrings page on her website:

"A little about me: I love to support handmade and stay crafty. I regularly blog at Lindsay Sews and Craft Buds. My husband and I are currently on the waiting list for three different adoption programs, hoping to enter a program with a wait time of 2 years or less. We are working to save money in various ways, and plan to take advantage of $18,000 in federal and work grants, which makes $10,000 our fundraising goal.

When my husband and I got married five years ago, we had talked about the ways adoption had each come into our hearts. For me, it was volunteering at a family shelter alongside an adoptive mother that really opened my eyes to adoption. My husband grew up with an adoptive sister, and watched his parents open their home to provide, even when it wasn't easy. Years later, the desire to adopt had not gone away, but had only grown stronger!

Adoption to me is a chance to give a home to a child. A chance to open my heart and eyes to a child, to learn from that child and to grow together as a family. It is not a chance to "do something good." It is not about feeling that my way of life as an American is more right than in other cultures. It also breaks my heart to realize that the system has been abused, with adoption scandals in the past that have only brought us further from healing and hope as a world society.

While we wait to find out which adoption pathway is best for us, whether that is international or domestic, I've been busy making hundreds (maybe thousands?) of handmade button earrings to help offset the costs of adoption. The fabric-covered buttons were made with love by me and a dear group of friends."

Here are a few of the lovely button covered earrings which she sells:

Publisher: Even Before Publishing
Number of Pages :: 281
Version :: Paperback
Source :: Book Crash Review Program
Age Group :: 16+
ISBN :: 978-1-922074-07-2

This is an Australian Christian fiction novel that is based on a true story, written by Jo Wanmer. The story is about the Heymer family, and their 13 year old daughter, Isobel. In the beginning of the story we learn that Isobel has been suffering secret abuse from her family's "friends" for several years, and that her parents are unaware that  their "friends" the P's are using their friendship and Christianity merely for access to their daughter. A few chapters into the book the man who was molesting Isobel,  Harry P. commits suicide {I'll spare you the gory details, you would thank me} and even though Harry is no longer living on this earth, Isobel and her family still have a difficult time forgiving and recovering from the abuse that was deceptively planned out behind their backs. While Harry was still abusing girls, he professed faith in Jesus Christ and regularly attended church and Wednesday night Bible studies. The Heymer family had a hard time grasping whether Harry's Christianity was real or fake, and wonders if his wife, Mae is still a Christian herself.

Product Review :: eShakti

Hello ladies! Today I have a product review for you all! For those of you who are hard to fit clothing-wise, like me, then this review is for you!

About The Company ::
Today's feature is a neat company called eShakti {pronounced e-shuck-tee} that specializes in customized clothing to fit your body shape! I had seen that a few of my other blogger friends had the chance to review one of their items, and I loved their dresses, so I asked if I might be able to review their company and to my great delight they said yes! :) Personally I don't have hardly any dresses-mainly because they never fit me! They are always too tight here or too loose here or not long enough or modest enough to fit my personal modesty standards. This website is the answer to that problem since they allow you to customize your clothing! Their motto is "We design. You customize." and it's certainly true! This website sells all sorts of womens' clothing from dresses, to skirts to accessories! And all their clothing has customize options! Product Review & Giveaway :: Lilla Rose

Do you enjoy putting your hair in a pretty, feminine style without having it take forever? Well if so then today I'd like to show you a neat company called Lilla Rose that sells a unique, pretty, easy hair clip that I've fallen in love with!

About The Company ::

{Website} ~ {Facebook} ~ {Twitter} ~ {Blog}

Lilla Rose is a neat company that is made up of many consultants. Lilla Rose mainly sells hair jewelry, including hair sticks, bobby pins, o-rings, and headbands. They also sell necklaces, earrings and badge holders. But the most well-known item that Lilla Rose sells is the unique flexi-clip. The flexi-clip is definitely unlike traditional hair barrettes and ponytail holders due to it's flexible top and sliding stick that holds hair in place. I'll show you some pictures of the flexi-clips here in a minute but first I'd like to tell you a bit about the wonderful consultant who is sponsoring us today! Her name is Gail Harris and she was so sweet to let me review some of Lilla Rose's items as well as host a giveaway. She is a fellow sister in Christ and has been so sweet and kind through our messages together. I'm very excited about helping her share the word about these wonderful clips she sells!

Giveaway & Product Review :: Tundra Trading

Thanks for stopping by today! This morning I will be reviewing some goodies from Tundra Trading as well as hosting a giveaway!

About The Store ::
 Tundra Trading is a wonderful website that is perfect for those who desire to eat healthier foods and watch the things that go into them. This website sells all naturally sweetened mints, gum and licorice...all sweetened with a natural sweetener called xylital. A while back I had no idea what xylital was, but now that I've been investing in this review I've been doing some reserch on xylital. Here is an excerpt from Xylitol.org on the benefits of using xylitol instead of sugar:

Xylitol is a naturally occurring carbohydrate. It is found in fibrous vegetables and fruit. It also occurs naturally in our bodies – in fact, an average size adult manufactures up to 15 grams of xylitol daily during normal metabolism. Pure xylitol is a white crystalline substance that looks and tastes like sugar.

Xylitol is only slowly absorbed and partially utilized; therefore a reduced calorie claim is allowed: 2.4 calories per gram or 40% less than other carbohydrates. In addition, the body does not require insulin to metabolize xylitol, which has made it a widely used sweetener for the diabetic diet in some countries. In the U.S., xylitol is approved as a food additive in unlimited quantity for foods with special dietary purposes.

The Product Review ::
I was recently blessed to be able to review one of the DVD's in the Homestead Blessing series. Homestead Blessings is a series hosted by the West ladies showing how to do homestead skills. They have a DVD for cooking, canning, quilting, sewing, soap making, bread making, candle making, herbs, gardening,  dairy delights, sewing, and crafting. Each film features Mrs. West, and her daughters Jasmine, Cecilia and Hannah. For more information of The Homestead Blessing Series, or to view trailers click HERE!

Homestead Blessings: The Eleven Pack - Hosted by the West Ladies

The movie I choose the review is the sewing DVD. We recently got a sewing machine and I jumped at the opportunity to review this movie full of tips, advice and ideas! We already own the cooking DVD and have really enjoyed it so I was sure I'd enjoy the sewing DVD! I thought you'd all be interested so I've attached the trailer below so check it out!

Homestead Blessings: The Art of Sewing
Here is the product description from the website:

This inspiring and education DVD teaches a wide-range of fun and useful sewing skills. Expand your knowledge  of sewing with helpful and down-to-earth instruction The West Ladies are known for, and develop a wide assortment of useful skills that will assist in making wonderful sewing creations.

Here is a fun excerpt from the film showing a portion on their rag quilt project:

The DVD arrived very quickly, I got it within three days! I really enjoyed watching the DVD and found it to be very helpful and full of great sewing tips as well as sewing projects that an level sewer could accomplish! On this DVD the West Ladies show how to make a doll blanket and pillow, a tiered skirt, feminine blouse, and rag quilt. They also had some neat "extras" were they showed past creations they made from simple things such as drapes, bed sheets and tablecloths all made through simply altering it a bit! They also show neat variations to add spice and feminine to your projects. I also found the extra bonus feature for the basic tools you will need when sewing to be helpful as well! The West Ladies did a wonderful job being very informational and giving lots of helpful tips. The movie was very well made for having been made in their home and gave wonderful angles as well as close up views to help you easily see how they did the projects, making it clear and easy to do them yourself! I'd recommend this DVD to anyone interested in sewing! I'd like to say  big thanks to Franklin Springs for allowing me to review this DVD! If you are interested in learning more about Franklin Springs and their family-friendly films then go check out their website HERE! Have a blessed day!
